MSTY Dividend Payout Date
MSTY pays every week. YieldMax’s MSTR Option Income Strategy ETF is an actively managed fund built to generate weekly income by selling call spreads on Strategy Inc (MSTR).
The cash arrives on Friday, and the amount changes every time.
The next payout should follow the usual rhythm: ex-dividend on Thursday, September 24, and payment on Friday, September 25.
The amount hasn’t been confirmed yet. If you’re used to monthly dividend investments, the weekly pattern and the size of the swings take some getting used to.
This guide covers the timeline, the recent numbers and what the headline yield figures don’t tell you.
When does MSTY pay its dividend?
MSTY pays once a week. Each cycle has three dates:
- Declared date (Wednesday): YieldMax announces the amount.
- Ex-dividend and record date (Thursday): you must own shares before this day to receive the payout.
- Payable date (Friday): cash is paid, usually the next business day.
Here’s the upcoming cycle. It’s based on the pattern in YieldMax’s own distribution table, so confirm it on the fund page:
- Declaration: Wednesday, September 23
- Ex-date and record date: Thursday, September 24
- Payable date: Friday, September 25
- Amount: not published yet; YieldMax posts it on the declaration date
Why does the payment date sometimes slip to Monday?

Market holidays push the calendar back. The official table shows several examples:
- Good Friday week (April 2026): ex-date April 2, paid Monday, April 6.
- Juneteenth week: ex-date June 18, paid Monday, June 22.
- Independence Day week: ex-date July 2, paid Monday, July 6.
- Thanksgiving 2025: ex-date moved to Friday, November 28, with payment on Monday, December 1.
Expect similar shifts around Thanksgiving and the year-end holidays.
How do you qualify for the next payout?
You need to own MSTY before the ex-date. Under T+1 settlement, that means buying by the close of trading on Wednesday for a Thursday ex-date. Buy on Thursday and you miss that week’s payout. Sell on or after the ex-date and you still receive it.
Don’t treat the ex-date as a shortcut. A fund’s price typically adjusts for the distribution on the ex-date, so buying just before it isn’t free money.

What the 2026 numbers actually show
I added up YieldMax’s official table for 2026. This is my own arithmetic, not a figure YieldMax publishes:
- 38 distributions from the January 2 ex-date through September 17 total $11.9057 per share, an average of about $0.31 a week.
- The peak was $0.5553 (ex-date May 7). The low was $0.1549 (July 2).
- Four straight payouts from April 23 to May 14 ran between roughly $0.49 and $0.56. Since May 21, only one payout has topped $0.30, the $0.3121 on September 10.
- The last eight payouts averaged about $0.23, against $0.31 for the year.
Older figures aren’t comparable. The table shows monthly payments through September 2025 ($1.01 on the last one), then weekly payments from mid-October 2025. A $1–$4 monthly payout in 2024 and a $0.24 weekly payout today measure different things.
Why do both 85.44% and 1.74% appear on the fund page?
They measure different things, and neither one predicts your future income.
- Distribution rate (85.44%, as of 9/16): YieldMax annualizes the most recent distribution, which includes option income, and divides it by the latest NAV. It’s a one-week snapshot. Multiply $0.2395 by 52 and you get about $12.45 a year, but only if every week matched that one.
- 30-Day SEC yield (1.74%, as of 8/31): This is net investment income, which excludes option income, over the 30 days ending at month-end. It reflects the interest and yield on the fund’s Treasury and cash holdings, not the option premiums that drive most of the payout.
YieldMax states that neither figure indicates future distributions and that distributions aren’t guaranteed. YieldMax ETFs
Return of capital: read the ROC column carefully

Return of capital means part of a payout is treated as your own money coming back rather than earnings. It isn’t automatically bad, but it lowers your cost basis and can erode NAV over time. The estimated ROC share in YieldMax’s table swings from 0% to about 99% from one week to the next. YieldMax says these are estimates that may later be reclassified as ordinary dividends, capital gains or return of capital. The final breakdown appears in the fund’s 19a-1 notices and your Form 1099-DIV. A tax professional can tell you what applies to your situation.
How MSTY generates the payout, and the trade-off
The fund writes call spreads on Strategy Inc (MSTR) and collects option premiums. That premium funds the weekly distribution. The strategy captures only part of MSTR’s upside, but it bears all the potential losses if MSTR falls, and premiums may not offset those losses.
That matters because a high distribution rate isn’t total return. As of August 31, 2026, MSTY’s NAV returned +31.58% over one month, but −11.57% year to date and −54.35% over one year, against +20.38% for the S&P 500 TR over the year. That’s past performance, and it’s very volatile.

Is MSTY a fit for monthly dividend investments?
It fits only if you can live with variability. Weekly payments spread income across the month, but the amounts aren’t steady. Some months also have more payment dates. October 2026 has five Thursdays, so expect five ex-dates. Practical points:
- Don’t budget fixed bills around it. Payouts have ranged from about $0.15 to $0.56 this year.
- Watch the concentration. This is a single-issuer fund tied to MSTR, and YieldMax lists single issuer risk and call writing strategy risk among its main risks.
- Consider related funds carefully. YieldMax also runs other MSTR-linked funds, such as MSST and WNTR, with different designs. WNTR uses a short strategy. Read each prospectus before assuming they behave alike.
This isn’t financial advice. Check the fund’s prospectus and consider speaking with a licensed advisor.
Where should you confirm the next date and amount?
- YieldMax’s MSTY page and distribution schedule: the authoritative source.
- YieldMax’s tax-info page: 19a-1 notices for the final composition.
- Your broker: actual credit dates can vary slightly.
Be cautious with third-party dividend sites. Among the pages I checked, trailing-yield figures ranged from about 70% to about 179%, and at least one listed future payments as already made. Use them for context, not for planning.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the MSTY dividend payout date today?
Today is Wednesday, September 23, 2026, which is normally MSTY’s declaration day. The next payment is expected Friday, September 25, with an ex-date of Thursday, September 24. The most recent confirmed payout was $0.2395, paid September 18.
How does YieldMax announce the MSTY dividend?
YieldMax declares each distribution on Wednesday and lists it on its MSTY page and distribution schedule, with the amount, ex-date, record date and payable date. YieldMax has also issued distribution press releases through GlobeNewswire.
Is MSTY a weekly dividend ETF?
Yes. MSTY pays weekly. YieldMax’s official table shows the fund moving from monthly to weekly payments around October 2025. There’s no guarantee a distribution will be made in any given week.
Where can I find MSTY’s dividend payout history?
YieldMax’s MSTY page lists every distribution since the fund’s first payout in April 2024. It shows the declared, ex, record and payable dates plus estimated return of capital. Amounts before October 2025 were monthly and much larger per share.
Can MSTY’s dividend be predicted?
Not reliably. The fund’s amount depends on option premiums and market conditions, and YieldMax says distributions can vary greatly from one payout to the next. As context only, the last eight payouts ranged from $0.1620 to $0.3121 and averaged about $0.23.
What are MSTY’s next dividend date and amount?
The next ex-date is expected Thursday, September 24, with payment Friday, September 25. The amount isn’t confirmed until YieldMax declares it. Recent payouts suggest something between about $0.16 and $0.31, but that’s history, not a forecast.
How much does MSTY pay per share?
The latest payout was $0.2395 per share (ex-date September 17). From my sum of YieldMax’s table, MSTY paid $11.9057 across 38 distributions in 2026 through September 17, about $0.31 per payout on average.
